The award-winning medical pioneer and international speaker is continuing his mission in educating the public on the treatment options and prevention methods involving uterine fibroids.
Board-certified Interventional Radiologist and world-renowned uterine fibroid authority Dr. John Lipman, MD, FSIR, is indeed a physician on a mission. He is the Founder and Medical Director of the Atlanta Fibroid Center, a state of the art medical facility specializing in the non-surgical treatment of uterine fibroids. To date, Dr. Lipman has performed over 9,000 uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) procedures, making him one of the world’s most experienced UFE physicians. He also volunteers his extensive expertise to Morehouse School of Medicine as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor.

Moreover, he is the creator of the documentary Freedom from Fibroids, which features reality tv star and fellow uterine fibroids activist Cynthia Bailey. Additionally, Dr. Lipman organized the Freedom From Fibroids Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization which recently partnered with Responsum Health to further expand the resources, community engagement, and safe space for women suffering from uterine fibroids.

Uterine fibroids are most common in women in their 40s and early 50s and it has been found that 25% of African American women, the primary users of relaxers, develop fibroids compared to about 6% of white women. African American women are also more likely to develop them earlier in life and also tend to experience larger and more numerous fibroids. Not all women with fibroids have symptoms, however women who do have symptoms often find fibroids hard to live with. They deal with symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding, difficulty emptying the bladder, and prolonged menstrual cycles. In addition to perm and relaxer hair products being so threatening, these young women are typically pushed into hysterectomies by OBGYN’s without exploring other options. Dr. Lipman works tirelessly to inform the African American community of Uterine Fibroid Embolization, a less invasive option to dealing with fibroids.

Dr. Lipman is on a passionate mission to continue to educate the public on the treatment options for uterine fibroids (most notably the UFE procedure). With features on CNN, The Doctors, The Health Network, USA Today, Jet Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and WebMD, Dr. Lipman is a highly sought after health expert on uterine fibroids and also other related women’s health conditions. Dr. Lipman’s extensive and prominent medical background allows him to continuously contribute to African American women’s health.
