Game Time: Wendy Raquel Robinson And Hosea Chanchez Suit Up for “The Game” Reboot

It appears that reboots of beloved television icons are here to stay. Over the past two years we’ve seen a slew of shows that seemed to close the book on their stories find that there are indeed more chapters left to discover. The beloved CW and BET classic, The Game, has joined in on the series reboot trend finding a new home at Paramount+, the streaming platform for ViacomCBS. Like Disney+ and NBC’s Peacock, Paramount+ is banking on capturing the nostalgic hearts of fans who are longing to get a little more time with beloved characters from popular franchises like The Game. Doubling down on this effort Paramount+ has ordered 10 half-hour episodes for the first season of the series. Thus solidifying their faith in The Game’s faithful fanbase.

Hosea Chanchez as “Malik Wright” & Wendy Raquel Robinson as “Tasha Mack”

In the latest installment of the series Wendy Raquel Robinson and Hosea Chanchez have been tapped as leads and series regulars reprising their roles as the gridiron’s favorite mother and son duo Tasha Mack and Malik Wright. Just like finding a new home at Paramount+, The Game’s story has relocated from coastal and breezy San Diego to saucy and steamy Las Vegas . And with Malik’s colorful and wild history in San Diego viewers are sure to see him have plenty of exciting and mischievous rendezvous under the bright lights and temptation of Vegas. Then again, this time around Malik is older and an aging athlete. He might be confronted with the fact that he’s not as spry as his younger counterparts. It will be fun and quite interesting to see Malik navigate this stage of his life.

Never one to shy away from tough and historically taboo topics,The Game quickly shot to fame and became a fan favorite because of the show’s ability to tackle subject matter like sexual exploration, physical abuse, and addiction while infusing indelible humor, and heart. And beautifully doing so from a mostly Black perspective while giving a glimpse into life as a Black pro football player. The show will continue to tackle current issues that affect Black culture and community such as racism, misogyny, classism, and even police brutality. The audience will be delighted to see original cast members make special appearances while being introduced to new characters. It will be interesting to see what Melanie, Derwin, Jason, and Kelly have been up to after all these years.

The Game will also continue it’s 15 year journey with the show’s original creator Mara Brock Akil(Girlfriends, Love Is) by reuniting and reprising the executive producing role along with her husband Salim Akil(Black Lightning), writer and show runner Devon Greggory(American Soul), Tom Russo(Black-ish), and Kelsey Grammer(Frasier, Girlfriends). The new season of The Game is produced for Paramount+ by CBS Studios, Akil Productions, and Grammnet NH Productions. ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group will distribute the series internationally.
